President Tinubu Extends Security Suspension for Lagos Monarchs Amid Deepening Rift with Sanwo-Olu
The rift between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has intensified, with new developments surrounding the security status of two prominent Lagos monarchs. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the indefinite continuation of the security withdrawal for traditional rulers Omogbolahan Oniru and Saheed Elegushi. This action comes after revelations that the monarchs supported Sanwo-Olu’s controversial move to impeach Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, in January.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sources informed Peoples Gazette that President Tinubu approved the decision to withhold security from the monarchs following their alignment with Sanwo-Olu’s actions, which have deeply angered the president. The president was particularly upset by Sanwo-Olu’s failure to manage the impeachment process, especially as it involved rebellious lawmakers. The suspension of security details has led to the absence of police vans outside the palaces of Oniru and Elegushi, with Oniru reportedly hiring private security personnel disguised as SSS agents.
Although constitutional limitations prevent Tinubu from directly punishing Governor Sanwo-Olu, sources suggest the president is taking steps to hold accountable those involved in the impeachment scheme. The president’s frustration stems from his belief that the monarchs should have independently verified Sanwo-Olu’s claims regarding the legitimacy of the impeachment.
Oniru’s spokesperson emphasized that the traditional ruler’s involvement was purely ceremonial, as his primary focus remains on the welfare of his people. In contrast, Elegushi has made efforts to restore his government-provided security.
Despite the severity of the situation, spokespeople for both the president and Sanwo-Olu have yet to comment publicly on the escalating conflict.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
