Tanko Refutes Claims of Peter Obi Joining SDP, Affirms Loyalty to Labour Party
Yunusa Tanko, the Interim National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, has addressed the recent claim made by Social Democratic Party (SDP)’s 2023 presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, concerning Peter Obi’s purported defection plans. Responding to this on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief” on Monday, April 7, 2025, Tanko dismissed the claim, stating that Obi remains a committed member of the Labour Party.
“As far as I’m concerned, His Excellency, Peter Obi, is still a member of the Labour Party. That remains the status unless anything changes,” Tanko emphasized.
He further revealed that Labour Party leaders are scheduled to meet within the week to deliberate on critical matters, particularly in response to the Supreme Court’s recent decision which invalidated Julius Abure’s position as the party’s national chairman.
Tanko assured the public that after this meeting, the party would provide a clear stance on the way forward, aligning with the court’s ruling and addressing any ongoing speculations about the party’s internal leadership or member defections.
