Chaos in Abuja as Police Fire Tear Gas at Peaceful Protesters
A peaceful protest organized by the Take-It-Back Movement, in collaboration with several civil society organizations, descended into chaos on Monday morning when police operatives deployed tear gas to disperse demonstrators in the Maitama area of Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The demonstrators had gathered to voice their concerns over a range of national issues, including the controversial application of the Cybercrime Act, deteriorating economic conditions, and what they described as a “state of emergency” in Rivers State.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as tear gas canisters were launched, causing protesters to flee in different directions for safety. Participants carried placards with inscriptions such as “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe,” as they marched through the streets demanding justice and an end to what they termed increasing authoritarianism in the country.
Renowned human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was present at the demonstration, lending his support to the cause. He has remained vocal in challenging repressive policies and advocating for civil liberties.
According to Juwon Sanyaolu, National Coordinator of the Take-It-Back Movement, the protest is part of a broader campaign aimed at resisting repressive government actions and policies. In a statement released last Friday, he emphasized the urgency of providing relief to Nigerians battling inflation and insecurity.
“We are out here to ensure that our voices are heard,” Sanyaolu stated. “The government must end the misuse of repressive laws to silence dissent. Nigerians need real solutions to the economic and security crises they are facing.”
Despite the disruption, organizers have vowed to continue their campaign to demand accountability and democratic reforms from the authorities.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
