Northern Governors Condemn Plateau Killings, Pledge Joint Action for Lasting Peace
The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks that claimed lives in several communities within Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. Speaking through his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya described the attacks in Ruwi, Manguna, Daffo, Josho, and Hurti as a grave threat to regional stability and unity. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the entire people of Plateau State.
Governor Yahaya decried the continued bloodshed in rural northern communities and called for a national condemnation of such brutal acts. “The sanctity of human life must never be taken for granted,” he said, stressing that these heinous attacks are unacceptable.
The NSGF Chairman praised Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his prompt response to the tragedy and the swift action of security forces in stabilizing the affected areas. He urged security agencies to intensify their efforts in apprehending the attackers and ensuring justice.
Furthermore, Governor Yahaya emphasized the need for increased community engagement and the promotion of peace, particularly between farmers and herders. He reaffirmed the commitment of Northern governors to collectively address insecurity through enhanced collaboration, dialogue, and implementation of inclusive policies.
He also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society groups to support peacebuilding efforts and promote reconciliation among diverse groups. Yahaya stressed that development and progress cannot be achieved in an environment of fear and violence.
