Aston Villa Secure Seventh Straight Win Ahead Of Crucial PSG Clash

Published

on

Aston Villa extended their winning streak to seven consecutive matches across all competitions with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over third-placed Nottingham Forest on Saturday, lifting them into the Premier League’s top six.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Early goals from Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen at Villa Park proved decisive, as Unai Emery’s side held on for the win despite a spirited second-half resurgence from the visitors. The result sets the stage perfectly for Villa’s upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

The impressive run of form has significantly boosted Villa’s prospects of securing Champions League qualification for next season. With English clubs performing strongly in Europe, a top-five Premier League finish is likely to guarantee a Champions League spot. Villa are currently level on points with fifth-placed Manchester City and trail Chelsea in fourth by just one point.

“We enjoy competing in the Champions League and the FA Cup, but the Premier League is the most important because that’s how we secure our goals for next season,” said Emery, who rotated his squad heavily ahead of the PSG fixture, making eight changes from the midweek 3-0 win over Brighton.

The tactical gamble paid off early. Rogers netted his 13th goal of a standout season after a clever assist from Youri Tielemans, while Malen doubled the lead shortly after, finishing off Ian Maatsen’s precise low cross.

Despite the early setback, Nottingham Forest mounted a strong second-half challenge. Substitute Jota Silva made an immediate impact, scoring in the 56th minute to reduce the deficit. Forest continued to push for an equaliser, with Neco Williams and Callum Hudson-Odoi going close, and Murillo striking the crossbar deep into stoppage time.

Villa, who could meet Forest again in the FA Cup final if both sides progress through their semi-finals, demonstrated resilience and squad depth. Emery’s second-half substitutions, including Marcus Rashford and Jacob Ramsey, helped preserve their narrow advantage.

Forest, who were playing their third match in six days after an FA Cup semi-final berth via extra time and penalties, now face a challenging run-in to secure European qualification, with their advantage over Villa now trimmed to six points.

Despite the result, Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo remained optimistic. “We normally start strong, but we didn’t today. That’s the key lesson—we can’t afford such slow starts,” he said.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
