Green Africa Acquires First Owned Aircraft After Years Of Leasing

Green Africa, a Lagos-based value airline in Nigeria, has announced the acquisition of its first owned aircraft, marking a significant milestone after years of relying on leased planes. The newly acquired aircraft, an ATR 72-500 with the manufacturer’s serial number 852 and registration mark 5N-GAB, is set to commence service shortly, pending the completion of customary regulatory approvals.

The acquisition was partially funded through a Naira debt facility provided by Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest financial institutions.

Babawande Afolabi, Founder and CEO of Green Africa, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to acquire our very first aircraft, a crucial step forward in our journey to provide safe, affordable, and reliable air travel to a wider customer base in the region.”

Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to supporting innovative businesses, noting, “As a leading financial institution, we take pride in empowering young enterprises like Green Africa that have the potential to transform their industries and create a positive impact locally and continentally. Green Africa, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic and operational since 2021, has built a strong reputation as one of the most affordable and punctual airlines in Nigeria’s domestic market. This acquisition marks a new chapter in the airline’s growth and commitment to expanding its services.
