Justice Nzeukwu’s appointment comes after the removal of former Chief Judge Theresa Chikeka, who was dismissed by the National Judicial Council (NJC) for age falsification. Alongside the new Acting Chief Judge, two new commissioners, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha and Dr. Chioma Egu, were also inaugurated.
Governor Uzodimma reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a credible judiciary, urging judicial officers to uphold honesty and a strong sense of justice. He clarified that Justice Nzeukwu’s selection followed thorough due process, carried out in collaboration with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), which is also working to appoint a substantive Chief Judge for the state.
The governor charged Justice Nzeukwu with the responsibility of restoring the judiciary’s integrity and encouraged him to lead with wisdom and dedication. Addressing the newly appointed commissioners, he urged them to positively impact governance and act in the best interests of the people of Imo State.
