Governor Nwifuru Orders Arrest of 6 Commissioners, LG Chairman Over Contract Breach

The Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, has also been suspended.
According to the Chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on the Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus, the officials were arrested for allegedly failing to meet the agreed contract terms, thereby delaying the governor’s plan to commission the housing units for his two-year anniversary.
Donatus noted that Governor Nwifuru, known for his compassionate leadership, was deeply disappointed with the slow progress of the housing project meant to aid victims of communal crises. The government viewed the non-completion as sabotage and took decisive action to ensure accountability.
Mrs. Maria Okohu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilization, Ebonyi Central, stated that the contractors’ failure to deliver the project as expected and the commissioners’ lax supervision constituted a breach of duty.
Meanwhile, the police have issued invitations to some of the contractors and commissioners who were unavailable during the committee’s visit. The crackdown on those involved will continue until the project is completed as planned.
