Benue Ready for 2025 Sports Festival: Governor Alia Backs Athletes to Shine
The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has received the Torch of Unity for the upcoming 2025 National Sports Festival. The torch was presented by a delegation from the National Sports Commission as part of the festival’s preparatory activities. Deputy Governor Barr. Sam Ode, who received the torch on behalf of Governor Alia, highlighted the governor’s commitment to sports development, describing it as an avenue to foster unity among sports enthusiasts nationwide. He praised Governor Alia’s initiatives in the sports sector, which have significantly improved infrastructure, particularly in football.
Ode also called on investors to explore opportunities in Benue’s sports sector, emphasizing the state’s plans to diversify into other sports such as volleyball, handball, and table tennis. He expressed confidence that the McCarthy Stadium in Makurdi would soon be ready for hosting Lobi Stars’ home matches.
The deputy governor also lauded the resilience of Lobi Stars’ officials, acknowledging their dedication despite the challenges of playing away from home.
Governor Alia’s proactive approach to sports has set the stage for Benue to make a strong impression at the upcoming national event.
