The Orunda of Olorunda, Oba Olusegun Phillips-Ogunsola, has called on the Omala of Imala land, Oba Moses Olabode, to issue a public apology to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State Executive Council. This request follows comments made by Oba Olabode, describing Phillips-Ogunsola’s installation as a monarch as an act of “executive recklessness.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The dispute arose when Oba Moses Olabode alleged that Oba Phillips-Ogunsola’s coronation was a mistake, claiming that he was not an indigene of the land and urging the state governor to revoke the installation. He argued that the governor was misled into endorsing the coronation and called for a review to prevent chaos and bloodshed.

In response, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola, through his personal assistant, Tajudeen Tinubu, described the statements made by Oba Olabode as false, emphasizing that they were disrespectful to both the governor and the executive council. He stressed that Olorunda was historically established by the Egbas and not the Imalas, and that his family has a long-standing presence in the community.

The Orunda further clarified that the land in question belongs to the Egba people through conquest and settlement, disputing claims made by the Omala of Imala about being the rightful landlord. He accused the Omala of attempting to rewrite history and create division.

Meanwhile, Oba Phillips-Ogunsola called for the state government and security agencies to remain vigilant, alleging that the Omala of Imala had been inciting unrest by bringing thugs into the area. The monarch emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in Olorunda and its environs.

This incident has sparked public debate, with stakeholders urging traditional rulers to prioritize harmony and respect among communities to prevent escalation of conflicts.

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions.
