Both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed optimism about securing victory ahead of the judgment by the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal, set to be delivered today.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The PDP, led by its candidate Asue Ighodalo, is contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of Monday Okpebholo of the APC as the winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election. The PDP claims that the election was marred by irregularities.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, had reserved its judgment after the final written addresses from all parties on March 3, 2025. The much-anticipated judgment is due today.

In a recent interview in Benin, Jarret Tenebe, acting chairman of the APC in Edo State, expressed confidence in the party’s chances of victory. He highlighted that the APC had a strong case and praised their legal team’s efforts, asserting that the PDP failed to sufficiently prove allegations of irregularities.

“We are confident the judgment will favor us. APC and Governor Monday Okpebholo will continue to serve the people of Edo State with the dividends of democracy,” Tenebe said.

Meanwhile, Chris Nehikhare, the PDP’s publicity secretary, also expressed optimism, stating that the party had presented a solid case with well-documented evidence. Nehikhare emphasized the party’s trust in the judicial process, hoping for a fair and transparent judgment.

“We remain confident that the judgment will reflect the evidence we submitted, and we hope the judges are guided by the law,” Nehikhare stated.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
