NiMet Issues Three-Day Weather Forecast: States to Brace for Sunshine and Thunderstorms
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a three-day weather forecast predicting a blend of sunshine and isolated thunderstorms across various regions of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to NiMet’s weather outlook published on Monday, predominantly sunny conditions with occasional cloudiness are expected in the northern parts of Nigeria on Tuesday. However, isolated thunderstorms may develop later in the day, particularly in Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba States.
In the North Central region, sunny skies with occasional clouds are anticipated, with a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi States during the morning hours. As the day progresses, isolated thunderstorms are likely to occur in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Niger, Plateau, and Kwara States.
Southern regions are expected to experience morning thunderstorms in areas like Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are likely to affect states such as Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.
For Wednesday, NiMet forecasts sunny weather with cloud cover in the northern region, while isolated thunderstorms may occur in Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Kaduna States later in the day. The North Central region will have sunny skies with cloud patches during the morning hours, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the afternoon/evening in the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.
The southern part of the country will experience cloudy skies with periods of sunshine and chances of morning thunderstorms over Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States. Isolated thunderstorms are also anticipated in the afternoon or evening across Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.
On Thursday, the forecast indicates sunny skies with a few clouds over the northern region in the morning and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in Taraba during the afternoon and evening. In the North Central region, sunny conditions with cloud patches will prevail in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms over Benue, Kwara, and Kogi States later in the day.
Southern Nigeria will continue to experience cloudy skies with sunshine intervals, along with chances of isolated thunderstorms over Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States in the morning. Isolated thunderstorms are also forecasted later in the day across Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers States.
NiMet has advised residents to increase water intake to prevent dehydration due to the prevailing high temperatures, which may lead to heat stress. The agency also recommended getting vaccinated against meningitis, maintaining good hygiene practices, avoiding crowded areas, and wearing face masks to reduce infection risks.
In addition, the public is advised to limit exposure to direct sunlight, especially during peak hours (noon to 3 pm), and to take precautions against strong winds preceding thunderstorms. NiMet also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
