According to a statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the case is before Justice James Omotosho, with Bello standing trial alongside Dauda Sulaiman over allegations of misappropriation and money laundering involving more than ₦10 billion.

The new defence counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), told the court that he had only just been briefed on the case and needed time to review the case file properly.

He explained that the prosecution had already been informed and requested an adjournment to allow adequate preparation for the defence.

However, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) opposed the application, arguing that proper legal procedure was not followed in notifying the court of the change in counsel.

He urged the court not to grant the adjournment, describing the request as premature and not formally filed.

Despite the objection, Justice Omotosho granted the adjournment in the interest of fair hearing and rescheduled the matter for May 5 and 6, 2026.

Okolie, 33, was set to face the 2016 Olympic gold medallist on Saturday, April 25. However, promoter Queensberry confirmed on Monday night that it had been informed by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association that Okolie had recorded an adverse finding from a test carried out ahead of the event.

Following the development, the entire fight card has now been cancelled, with Queensberry stating that the decision was made due to circumstances beyond their control.

Okolie has since responded, linking the situation to medical treatment he received after suffering an elbow injury during training, which occurred after an earlier bicep issue.

He explained that he had undergone treatment on the injury and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved fairly, insisting he is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and remains confident his name will be cleared.

The former cruiserweight world champion moved up to heavyweight in 2024 and has remained unbeaten in the division across three fights, including a stoppage victory over Ebenezer Tetteh in December.

An investigation is expected to follow, while the timeline for his return to the ring remains uncertain.

Naija News reports that Adeleke made the claims during a stakeholders’ meeting, where he said his administration had been forced to take over the payment of salaries for local government workers, teachers, health workers, and pensioners for over a year.

He alleged that the situation had slowed down government projects and accused APC-aligned council officials of mismanaging funds meant for local government staff.

However, the APC dismissed the allegations in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accusing the governor of attempting to influence local government officials and using them for political purposes.
