According to a statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the case is before Justice James Omotosho, with Bello standing trial alongside Dauda Sulaiman over allegations of misappropriation and money laundering involving more than ₦10 billion.

The new defence counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN), told the court that he had only just been briefed on the case and needed time to review the case file properly.

He explained that the prosecution had already been informed and requested an adjournment to allow adequate preparation for the defence.

However, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) opposed the application, arguing that proper legal procedure was not followed in notifying the court of the change in counsel.

He urged the court not to grant the adjournment, describing the request as premature and not formally filed.
