At the Olympic Stadium, Lewandowski responded to Kylian Mbappe’s brace for Madrid by scoring twice, preserving his three-goal advantage in the race for Spain’s Golden Boot. The victory also extended Barcelona’s unbeaten streak to 20 matches this year.
Barcelona took the lead just before halftime when Ladislav Krejci’s own goal put them ahead. Although Girona equalized early in the second half through Arnaut Danjuma, Lewandowski quickly restored Barcelona’s advantage, netting his 24th and 25th goals of the season. Ferran Torres later added the fourth to seal the emphatic win.
Reflecting on his performance, Lewandowski, at 36, stated that he still feels physically strong and is determined to continue playing at the top level. “People talk about my age, but I feel great physically. My stats prove that I am still capable of performing at my best,” said the Polish striker.
Manager Hansi Flick made some tactical rotations, considering their upcoming Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico Madrid. Despite a somewhat sluggish start, Barcelona grew into the game, with youngsters Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez showing great potential.
Girona managed to level the match briefly, but Barcelona’s quality ultimately prevailed. The home side remained dominant, with Lewandowski’s clinical finishing proving too much for their opponents.
The victory marked the 20th time this season that Barcelona has scored four or more goals in a single match, showcasing their attacking prowess as they continue to chase a potential treble.
Lewandowski’s goal-scoring form has been crucial to Barcelona’s success, as they remain firmly at the top of La Liga, pursuing both domestic and European honors.
