Tinubu Appoints Former Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe as NHIA Chairman
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, a former Senator representing Kwara Central, as the new Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The announcement was made on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Dr. Oloriegbe, known for his extensive experience in healthcare management and policy, previously served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023.
Dr. Oloriegbe is highly qualified, holding a Master’s degree in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is an active member of professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), and the International AIDS Society (IAS).
The former lawmaker also chaired the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health during his tenure in the 9th Senate. His appointment is expected to bolster the leadership and strategic direction of the NHIA.
This latest appointment underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to leveraging experienced professionals within his administration to drive positive changes in Nigeria’s health sector.
