Saudi Arabia Confirms Eid-El-Fitr 2025 Date After Crescent Moon Sighting

The crescent moon marking the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia today, Saturday, 29th March 2025. Following the moon sighting, Saudi authorities have announced that Eid-El-Fitr, which signifies the end of the annual Ramadan fast, will be celebrated tomorrow, Sunday, March 30, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to various media sources, the moon-sighting committee convened after the Maghrib prayers and officially confirmed the sighting of the new moon. This verification marks the conclusion of Ramadan after 29 days of fasting.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, called on Muslims across Nigeria to observe the sky for the new moon of Shawwal 1446AH on Saturday, March 29, 2025. The directive was issued in a statement by the Waziri of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, on Friday, March 28, 2025.

The statement noted that March 29 is the 29th day of Ramadan 1446AH, making it the earliest possible date for moon sighting. The Sultan advised that anyone who sights the new moon should promptly report their observations through the designated phone numbers.

If the moon sighting is confirmed, it will officially conclude the Ramadan fast and signal the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. The Sultanate Council also indicated that an official announcement would follow based on verified moon sightings.

In preparation for the celebrations, the federal government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the end of the Ramadan fast.

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.
