Constituents Move to Recall Enugu Representative Martins Oke
Registered voters from the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in Enugu State have initiated the process to recall Hon. Martins Oke, their representative in the House of Representatives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The recall process was triggered by a petition dated March 27, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The petition, which was signed by at least 50% of registered voters in the constituency as required by the constitution, was presented by Mr. Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, alongside Mr. Clinton Ogbonna, Mr. Sabinus Amah, and Mr. Stephen Okenwa.
The petitioners allege that Hon. Oke has failed to perform his legislative duties, citing the absence of significant bills or motions sponsored by him during his three terms in office. They also criticized the lack of visible constituency projects, as well as his absence from National Assembly sessions and local engagements.
Furthermore, the petitioners claim that Hon. Oke’s election was not a reflection of the constituents’ will, alleging that he was imposed on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contrary to the party’s preference. They assert that although he reportedly lost the general election by a considerable margin, the Appeal Court declared him the winner based on legal technicalities.
The petition also highlights the lawmaker’s perceived disconnect from his constituency, noting his lack of a constituency office and the absence of town hall meetings or community interactions. The petitioners argue that Hon. Oke has not demonstrated commitment to addressing the pressing issues affecting the people of Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency.
The aggrieved voters are now seeking to reclaim what they consider a “stolen mandate” and urge INEC to facilitate the recall process.
