Residents Decry Demolition of ‘Illegal’ Structures in Ikorodu
The Lagos State Government has demolished several structures in the Agric Bus Stop, Owutu 1 Community Development Area (CDA) of Ikorodu, citing violations of the state’s building regulations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The demolition exercise, carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources and police officers, left many residents homeless and disrupted businesses and places of worship.
During a visit to the area, The Guardian observed affected residents expressing their distress over the sudden nature of the exercise. Many claimed they were not given sufficient time to salvage their belongings before the demolition began.
A resident, Isaac Orobose, lamented that despite the case being in court, LASBCA proceeded with the demolition. “We were in court waiting for a decision, but they still went ahead. Now, I have nowhere to house my children and elderly relatives,” he said. He also alleged that officials were selling off valuable materials from the demolished buildings to scavengers.
Princess Victoria Adebowale, Chairperson of Owutu 1 CDA, expressed concerns over the exercise, suggesting that some individuals might be using government agencies to seize residents’ properties. “We were in court on March 21 and also visited the Lagos State House of Assembly. Officials assured us they would speak with LASBCA. However, despite our efforts, the demolitions went ahead,” she stated.
In response, LASBCA spokesperson, Ademuyiwa Adu, defended the agency’s actions, stating that only structurally unsafe buildings were affected. He emphasized that prior notices had been served to residents, giving them ample time to vacate the premises.
Reports indicate that on January 23, 2025, LASBCA issued quit notices due to the proliferation of shanties in the area without proper building permits. In response, on January 28, residents, through their legal representatives, petitioned the Lagos State Government, the House of Assembly, and LASBCA’s Permanent Secretary, Gbolahan Oki, seeking intervention.
Despite these appeals, the demolition exercise proceeded, leaving affected families and businesses in distress.

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:
-
Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.
