Army Chief Urges Troops to Stay Resolute Amid Security Challenges

Speaking at the opening of a four-day Senior Command and Leadership Seminar in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Oluyede emphasized the importance of continuous engagement, particularly among military commanders leading frontline operations. The seminar is designed to enhance the strategic capabilities of senior officers in managing the nation’s complex security landscape while upholding the integrity of the Nigerian Army.
Represented by the Chief of Training at Army Headquarters, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Ndalolo, Oluyede highlighted teamwork and effective communication as essential tools in tackling insurgency and other security challenges. He stressed the need for collaboration and improved communication skills among soldiers to strengthen military operations.
Major General Hilary Nzan, Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command in Doma, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to national security. He assured that continuous training and capacity-building efforts would further enhance the military’s ability to protect all regions of the country.
In his remarks, Nasarawa State Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, commended the Nigerian Army for its dedication to combating crime and maintaining national unity. He encouraged stronger collaboration between the military and local communities to improve intelligence gathering and information sharing.
The seminar, themed “Enhancing Operational Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment,” drew key stakeholders, including prominent traditional rulers such as the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Aliyu Onawo Ogah. The event also featured the presentation of souvenirs to distinguished guests in recognition of their contributions to national security.

West African Tax Institutes Under Nigerian Leadership for the Next Two Years
Nigeria has officially assumed leadership of the West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI) for the next two years, following the election of Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), as the President of the Union. WAUTI, which comprises National Tax Institutes/Associations from ECOWAS member states, is committed to enhancing tax professionalism, improving tax compliance, and streamlining tax administration within the region. With Nigeria at the helm, WAUTI aims to further its vision of harmonizing tax practices across West Africa, fostering a transparent and equitable taxation system that boosts economic growth and compliance.
In his acceptance speech, Agbeluyi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization, vowing to collaborate closely with fellow executives and stakeholders to advance the Union’s objectives. He highlighted his commitment to working on regional partnerships that will support professionalism in the tax systems of WAUTI’s member states.
Agbeluyi’s vast experience, which includes serving as the Honorary Treasurer and 2nd Vice President of CITN, has positioned him well for this new role. He is also a distinguished member of various prestigious bodies, such as the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), and has earned numerous accolades in the field of taxation.
In addition to Agbeluyi’s election, other members of WAUTI’s Executive for the 2025-2027 tenure were also selected, including the re-election of Mr. Innocent Ohagwa, CITN’s current Vice President, as the Honorary Treasurer. This marks the beginning of a new era of regional cooperation in tax administration under Nigerian leadership.
