His passing has drawn tributes from President Bola Tinubu, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, as well as several state governors.
Also mourning the nationalist are the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), where he served as a leader.
According to Vanguard, Clark, who was receiving treatment at DIFF Medical Centre in Abuja, passed away at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Monday, just months before his 98th birthday on May 25, 2025.
Speaking on his last moments, PANDEF National Chairman, Amb. Godknows Igali, and his eldest child, Mrs. Rebecca Clark-Okorodudu, disclosed that Clark urged those he was leaving behind—particularly members of PANDEF and SMBLF—to remain steadfast in the fight for restructuring and never relent in their efforts.
His family recounted his last words: “I am a Nigerian. I love Nigeria. Nigeria is my country. I am proud to be a Nigerian.”
They added that in his final hours, Clark emphasized the importance of resilience, urging the people never to adopt a spirit of defeat, assuring them that their struggle to make Nigeria a better nation would eventually succeed.
Before his passing, he made it clear that no one should mourn him but instead celebrate his life. He also instructed that anyone visiting his home during this period should be well received with food and drinks.
These were the words he shared with those around him last Friday, before his condition worsened, rendering him unable to speak. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away.
