Wike Defends Himself Against Accusations Of Misusing Rivers State Resources

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted allegations that he turned the resources of Rivers State into his personal estate while serving as Governor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the denial on Friday in Port Harcourt during a meeting with state stakeholders, responding to claims attributed to former Governor Dr. Peter Odili.

The Minister questioned the credibility of the allegations, pointing out that the individuals making such accusations had their children serving in government roles, including as commissioners, and asked how he could have made Rivers his private property.

“Those making these claims have children serving as commissioners. Are any of my children commissioners? I never turned the state into my personal estate,” Wike stated.

He also reminded the public that figures such as Dr. Abiye Sekibo, Prince Uche Secondus, and Austin Okpara were among those who initially opposed Siminalayi Fubara’s candidacy as Governor, even though they now present themselves as state elders.

Reflecting on his political journey, Wike recalled his success since 1999, including his unwavering stance on political matters, and noted how he risked his life to help former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki win re-election despite health challenges.

Wike also urged Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State to avoid turning against former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, as Obaseki did.

The FCT Minister confidently stated that many people were unhappy with him due to his presidential endorsement, but he remains undeterred. “I have nothing to lose,” he emphasized, adding that significant changes are coming to Rivers State.

Wike further called on Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, believing that 2025 would bring better outcomes for the country.

Senator Magnus Abe also responded to Wike’s remarks, acknowledging the political struggles that all politicians face. Abe emphasized that politicians, including those supporting Fubara, are motivated by their own political interests, not by love for the state.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
