Ex-Queen Naomi Ogunseyi Arrested Following Deadly Funfair Stampede In Ibadan

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has extended his condolences to the families of the children who tragically lost their lives in the Ibadan funfair stampede that occurred on Wednesday in Oyo State. According to reports, at least 35 people were confirmed dead following the tragic incident at the Islamic High School in Basorun, Ibadan, during an event organized by Naomi Ogunseyi, a former queen at the Ooni’s palace and founder of the Wings Foundation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Police have since arrested Naomi and seven others for their involvement in the event. The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), with a Deputy Commissioner of Police leading the investigation.

In a statement issued through his spokesman, Moses Olafare, the Ooni expressed sympathy for Naomi, acknowledging her dedication to children and her past efforts in organizing similar events in Osun State when she was a queen. The monarch called for urgent measures to be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future, stressing the importance of safety protocols and child welfare regulations.

“We share in the grief and pains of the affected families and pray for strength during this difficult time,” the statement read. “While she was queen, Naomi Silekuola Ogunseyi showed great care and love for the children of Ile-Ife, organizing events aimed at supporting underprivileged children during the festive season.”

The House of Oduduwa, the royal institution, expressed its commitment to supporting efforts that bring healing to the affected families. The statement also called for immediate steps to ensure safety in future events, including the enforcement of strict safety measures in educational institutions.

Furthermore, the Ooni’s statement criticized bloggers for sensationalizing the incident, urging them to uphold journalistic integrity. He emphasized the need for unity, compassion, and constructive dialogue among all stakeholders, including government officials, media, and citizens, to prevent future tragedies and honor the memories of those lost.
