Ihunwo Warns Against Wike’s Alleged Plot To Control Market Land In Rivers

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has accused Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike of using the police to destabilize markets in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ihunwo claimed that Wike directed the Anti-Cult Police Unit to attack market women and traders at Oginigba market.

In a statement shared on his X handle on Monday, Ihunwo alleged that Wike had intentions of seizing the market land from the traders.

“I strongly condemned the heavy-handed tactics used by some members of the anti-cultism unit and C4i division of the Nigerian Police Force during their raid on Oginigba market. Led by CSP Mohammed and CSP Masalachi, the officers drove traders from the market, causing panic and chaos among the civilians,” Ihunwo said.

He further stated that the police actions were allegedly instigated by Wike, accusing the FCT Minister of trying to unlawfully take control of the market land. Ihunwo said he had notified the commissioner of police about the incident and emphasized that he would seek legal redress rather than engage in public confrontations with Wike.

Ihunwo also clarified that Wike did not acquire the land during his time as both a minister and governor of Rivers State. He urged the public and the affected traders to remain calm and trust that the government would handle the situation properly.

The Obio/Akpor Chairman raised concerns about the history of collaboration between the police officers involved and Wike, suggesting that this relationship could explain the aggressive actions taken against the traders.
