The new wage will take effect from November 2024, in line with the current administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of state workers.

“I am pleased to inform you that His Excellency, Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage for workers in Taraba State, effective from November 2024,” the statement read.

This move follows a call from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which had earlier instructed workers in states yet to implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage to begin a strike. Workers in these states have been directed to commence the strike from December 1, 2024, as part of the resolutions made during the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

The NLC has expressed frustration over the delay by some state governors in implementing the new wage, accusing them of betraying workers by denying them their rightful earnings amidst rising economic challenges.

In addition to the strike, the NLC has announced plans to establish a committee to monitor the nationwide implementation of the new minimum wage.
