One of the counts reads: “That you, Henry Nathaniel Ekanem on or about 17th September, 2024, at Choba in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, did obtain the sum of Twenty Two United states of America dollars ($22) from Diana Roskov by fraudulently representing yourself as Coran Capsha, manager of the singer, Chris Stapleton, a pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed offence contrary to Section 1(1) (a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud- Related Offences Act 2006.”
He pleaded guilty when the charges were read to him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, A. Abubakar called witnesses, tendered some documents as evidence which were admitted by the court and marked as exhibits. He thereafter prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.
F. T. Fred-Boufini, counsel for the defendant did not oppose the prayers by the prosecution. However, she prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, stressing that the defendant was a first-time offender with no previous criminal records.

The judge also ordered that all the phones recovered from the convict be forfeited to the government, being proceeds of crime.

Prime Minister Plenković Refuses To Congratulate Milanović After Landslide Win
Zoran Milanović has secured a decisive re-election victory as Croatia’s president, capturing nearly 75 percent of the votes in the presidential race.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
His rival, Dragan Primorac, who was supported by the ruling center-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), received only 25 percent of the vote, marking the party’s worst performance in history.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković refrained from congratulating Milanović, instead dismissing the re-elected president as offering “nothing.”
Milanović, however, extended a gesture of reconciliation, stating he would “offer a hand” to the prime minister despite their political differences.
Although the Croatian presidency is largely ceremonial, requiring the president to serve as a non-partisan figurehead, Milanović has consistently criticized the governing HDZ, particularly on issues such as corruption, inflation, and healthcare.
While condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Milanović has also expressed strong disapproval of Western military aid to Kyiv, a stance that has sparked both domestic and international debate.
Before becoming president, Milanović served as Croatia’s prime minister from 2011 to 2016 and led the center-left Social Democratic Party (SDP) from 2007 to 2016.
Last year, he controversially announced plans to run for prime minister during the country’s parliamentary elections, a move deemed unconstitutional by the courts. He accused the judiciary of being influenced by the HDZ, which he called a “gangster clique.”
The HDZ, which has dominated Croatian politics since the country’s independence, now faces significant challenges after Primorac’s crushing defeat, a result that reflects rising discontent with the party and its leadership under Prime Minister Plenković.

Christian Leaders Urge Government To Prioritize Citizens’ Welfare Amid Economic Crisis
The Nigerian Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has expressed concern over the growing hardship in the country, which they attribute to government policies. NCEF Chairman and former Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Samuel Danjuma Dani, stated that the difficulties Nigerians are enduring could have been avoided.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Christian Elders noted that the country’s divisions were worsening, especially due to insecurity and religious persecution targeting Christians in the northern regions. The Forum also warned that the secular nature of Nigeria was being challenged and urged the government to uphold the country’s secular status.
The statement read: “Nigeria remains deeply divided, with many non-state actors heightening security pressures. While we commend the efforts of the military and security agencies, the issue of religious division remains unresolved, and religious discrimination continues in several parts of Northern Nigeria. Violations of citizens’ rights to freely practice their religion are still prevalent. Some religious extremists are actively challenging Nigeria’s secular state.”
On the causes of hardship, the NCEF highlighted government policies, particularly the removal of the fuel subsidy, as contributing to widespread hunger. They also pointed to corruption among political elites as a major factor pushing more Nigerians into poverty.
The Forum called on the government to give greater attention to the well-being of citizens when crafting policies. “The National Christian Elders Forum is deeply concerned about the hardship Nigerians are facing due to hyperinflation. Several factors are responsible for the nation’s distress. These include the ineffective policies of the past few years, rampant corruption among government officials, and constant attacks on farmers by religious insurgents.”
The NCEF further noted that Nigeria’s dependence on oil means that fluctuations in oil prices affect every other sector in the country. They acknowledged the claim that the subsidy system was corrupt but argued that any removal of the subsidy without a clear mitigation plan was detrimental to the citizens. “It is better to address corruption within the subsidy regime rather than causing unnecessary suffering to the population,” they said.
The Forum recalled a 2012 protest when former President Jonathan increased fuel prices, with Nigerians rallying under the slogan, “Kill Corruption; Do Not Kill Nigerians.” They asserted that this call remains relevant today. Since President Tinubu’s administration removed the fuel subsidy, fuel prices have risen from ₦195 per litre to ₦540, then to ₦617, and are currently hovering around ₦1,000 per litre, while the government struggles to pay a minimum wage of ₦70,000 per month.
Christian Elders urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and introduce policies to alleviate the current hardship.
