“No malicious intent was detected, and no hostile actions were observed.

“Our training areas remain secured, fortified, and designed to swiftly neutralize any security threat.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations made this known after the Hon Member representing the constituency, in the state House of Assembly, Hon Abdullahi Isah raised the alarm of bandits’ takeover of the camp.

“We acknowledge the palpable unease this baseless claim may have stirred within the Kontagora and Mariga communities, as well as Niger State as a whole.

“However, we wish to clarify that no credible threat exists in those areas as being peddled, contrary to the information presented by Hon Abdullahi Isah, representing the Kontagora II Constituency on the floor of the Niger State House of Assembly on 28 October 2024.

“Reports purporting an invasion of the military training area by alleged bandits and the subsequent displacement of residents from 23 communities across Kontagora and Mariga are not only untrue but are utterly misleading and harmful, as it appear calculated to incite unnecessary panic in the neighbourhood.

“A thorough investigation by our intelligence unit confirmed that the individuals observed in the area were herders seeking grazing grounds for their herds.

“While we appreciate the vigilance of the communities and the honourable member’s commitment to the safety of the people he represents, we strongly urge all concerned parties to approach such matters with caution and verify information through official channels, in this case, the Nigerian Army.

“Undoubtedly, misinformation of this nature has the potential to spread unwarranted fear, engender panic, misdirect valuable resources away from real security priorities, and ultimately aggravate the security situation.

“Our training areas remain secured, fortified, and designed to swiftly neutralize any security threat.

“The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of our host communities and Nigerians in general.”

ADC Cracks Down: Oyegun, Osunbor, Others Suspended Over Alleged Anti-Party Moves.

A fresh leadership crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State, as a faction of the party announced the suspension of two former governors, two ex-senators and several other members over alleged misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was announced on April 15, 2026, after a meeting of the faction’s State Executive Committee.

Among those suspended are former governors John Odigie-Oyegun and Osareimen Osunbor, as well as former senators Yisa Braimoh and Ehigie Uzamere.

Others affected include Nosa Ehima, former Oredo Local Government chairman; Sylvester Ewanehi, a former state commissioner; Tony Alile, the party’s newly elected Edo chairman; Jafaru Sumaila; Stella Alli; Igieogbe Asemota; and Christopher Ojeikere, the state publicity secretary.

Factional state chairman Kennedy Odion said the suspension followed allegations of insubordination, anti-party conduct and failure to comply with party directives.

He also accused the affected members of setting up parallel structures within the party and engaging in actions capable of causing division and confusion.

According to Odion, the State Executive Committee further found that some of the suspended members were involved in groups not recognised by the party’s constitution.

As part of the disciplinary action, all affected members have been barred from attending meetings, participating in party activities, making decisions on behalf of the ADC, or presenting themselves as party representatives.

The directive also instructed all party organs across Edo State to deny the suspended members recognition and access throughout the suspension period. Local government and ward executives were directed to ensure full compliance and report any breaches.

Odion said each affected member would receive a formal notice detailing the allegations and would be invited to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee to defend themselves, call witnesses and seek representation if necessary.

He added that the disciplinary process would follow the party’s constitutional procedures, while those suspended have the right to appeal within 14 days. Any appeal, he said, would be reviewed and decided within 21 days.

The faction said the suspension takes immediate effect and is binding on all party structures in the state.
