Presidency Names Interim Leadership As Tinubu And Shettima Remain Abroad. Both leaders are currently overseas, with Tinubu on a two-week working vacation since October 3 and Shettima on an official visit to Sweden.
Responding to public inquiries about the nation’s leadership, the Presidency reassured that there is no leadership vacuum. In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, it emphasized that the President and Vice President remain engaged with national matters despite being away.
The statement recalled a similar situation under the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari when both he and then-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were abroad for separate engagements. It noted that during such periods, government operations continued smoothly, with key officials and state organs functioning as usual.
The Presidency also cited instances earlier this year when Tinubu and Shettima were both out of the country simultaneously, asserting that the government’s machinery did not halt. It reiterated that the Constitution allows for the nation’s leadership to be carried out virtually and does not mandate the physical presence of the President or Vice President in the country at all times.
