Sources from within the church, including a pastor who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the upcoming retirements of Bishops David Abioye and Thomas Aremu.

According to the sources, the retirement is in line with the church’s operational guidelines, known as *The Mandate*, which recently lowered the retirement age from 60 to 55. A member of the church in Ota, Ogun State, revealed that the retirement will coincide with Bishop Oyedepo’s birthday celebrations. The member said, “It’s not a surprise to many of us, as the new rule permits only Bishop Oyedepo to hold his position for life. One of the two bishops had already been considering stepping down.”

Efforts to confirm the retirements from the church’s media team were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered. Bishops Abioye, 63, and Aremu, 67, are preparing to step down after years of dedicated service.

The church’s new rules state that only the founder, Bishop Oyedepo, will remain in office for life, while future leaders will serve for terms of seven years, subject to renewal by the church’s Board of Trustees.

Valedictory services will be held for the retiring bishops at their respective churches. Bishop Abioye’s farewell will take place on October 18, 2024, in Durumi, Abuja, while Bishop Aremu’s service is scheduled for October 15, 2024, at the LFC Basorun in Ibadan, Oyo State.
