The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted thunderstorms across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In a weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet forecast localized thunderstorms in the morning over parts of Kebbi and Zamfara States in the northern region.
The agency further anticipated afternoon and evening thunderstorms in parts of Zamfara, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States.
According to NiMet, localized thunderstorms are expected in the North Central region, particularly over parts of Niger and Kwara States during the morning. Later in the day, similar thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, and Kogi states.

In southern cities, localized thunderstorms are forecasted for Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Ondo States during the morning hours. The agency also expects localized thunderstorms later in the day in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Imo, Enugu, Ekiti, Edo, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States.
For Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are predicted for Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States in the north. Later in the day, localized thunderstorms are expected in Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Borno, and Gombe States.
Additionally, localized thunderstorms are anticipated in Plateau and Nasarawa States in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, localized thunderstorms are expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States. In southern regions, thunderstorms are forecasted for Delta, Edo, and Ondo States during the morning, with further thunderstorms expected later in the day across Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
On Wednesday, morning localized thunderstorms are expected in Kaduna, Zamfara, and Kebbi States. Later in the day, similar thunderstorms are anticipated in Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Kano States.
In the North Central region, localized thunderstorms are predicted for the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kogi States in the morning. Later, thunderstorms are expected in Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue States. Additionally, localized thunderstorms are forecasted for Cross River and Akwa Ibom States in the southern regions during the morning hours.
According to NiMet, localized thunderstorms will occur later in the day over Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
The agency urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas, warning that heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in major cities, with strong winds potentially preceding thunderstorms in affected regions.
NiMet advised the public to adhere to safety guidelines from relevant authorities and stay updated on weather conditions by visiting their website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
“Airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective operational planning,” the agency stated.
