Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sani Hassan, recently visited Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, the operator of the Kainji Hydropower Plant, emphasizing the need to enhance the protection of critical national infrastructure. This visit, reported by the Genco to DAILY POST, aimed to highlight the Kainji hydropower facility’s significance as a vital national asset and its contributions to Nigeria’s industrial growth and energy security.
During the visit, Air Marshal Hassan praised Mainstream Energy Solutions for its exemplary management of the hydropower facility. He expressed admiration for the company’s achievements, particularly through the Mainstream Foundation. “I don’t think I have encountered a private company that has achieved so much in this area. You can see the impact on the lives of the people. I commend you for this outstanding act of corporate social responsibility,” he stated.
The visit culminated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hydropolis Free Trade Zone’s airport. This significant project is poised to boost commerce within Nigeria and enhance international trade in the surrounding region. Expected to stimulate economic activity, the project aims to create job opportunities, thereby contributing to national security by reducing unemployment.
“This visit underscored the essential role of the Kainji hydropower plant in the nation’s energy landscape,” the company noted. This initiative comes at a crucial time, given the recent surge in vandalism targeting power infrastructure across Nigeria. Notably, vandals destroyed thirteen towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV Double Circuits.
