The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has expressed its gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for their instrumental roles in the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC). This commendation came during a press briefing held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Wednesday.
Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, President of the OYC, lauded President Tinubu for the swift signing of the SEDC bill into law. He emphasized the significance of this action, stating, “We commend President Tinubu for signing the bill into law in record time, ensuring even development across the country.” This development marks a significant milestone in addressing the long-standing needs of the South East region.
Igboayaka also praised Deputy Speaker Kalu for his “painstaking efforts” that contributed to the successful passage of the bill. He highlighted Kalu’s relationship with President Tinubu as a vital asset for the Igbo community, noting, “Ndigbo are not ingrates; we appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for breaking the jinx of 54 years. We are deeply appreciative to Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu for urging the president to remember Ndigbo by signing the SEDC Bill into law.”

He made the remark during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday, where he was asked whether he would withdraw in Obi’s favour if the former Labour Party candidate wins the party’s primary.
Atiku confirmed he would respect the outcome, saying he is prepared to step aside for any winner, including Obi.
“Of course, if he is a contender, why not?” he added when pressed further.
He also noted that other aspirants such as Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi are also in the race for the ADC ticket.
The former presidential candidate explained that his stance reflects democratic principles, stressing that candidates can emerge either through consensus or election.
Atiku further expressed confidence that the North remains a strong political base for him ahead of 2027, saying the region continues to show unity and support in past elections.
