According to the APC, Aigbebaku has been implicated in violent efforts to disrupt the upcoming September 21 Governorship Election. Despite a warning issued on August 20, 2024, regarding Aigbebaku’s alleged plans, no action has been taken by security forces, prompting concerns over their effectiveness.
The violence intensified on August 31, 2024, when Kelvin Omon Odion, reportedly acting on Aigbebaku’s orders, attacked Mrs. Collins Amoni, wife of the APC Ward 2 chairman. The assault included the burning of her headgear and theft of her mobile phone. Following this, the attackers, identified as being associated with Aigbebaku, targeted the home of APC Ward 2 Organizing Secretary David Iruedo. The attack resulted in brutal violence, including the assault of Iruedo’s family and the vandalism of his property.
Witnesses have identified several individuals involved, including Tunde Akele and Kelvin Ojo Omon, who were allegedly transported to the scene in vehicles linked to Aigbebaku.
The APC has issued a strong demand for Aigbebaku’s immediate arrest, emphasizing that while they support a peaceful electoral process, they will not hesitate to defend their members if necessary.
