₦2.19 Trillion Windfall! See How Much FG, States And Local Governments Will Receive

Published

on

The Federal Government, state governments and local government councils have shared a total of ₦2.428 trillion from the Federation Account and Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue for September 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The amount represents an increase of ₦90 billion compared with the ₦2.338 trillion distributed among the three tiers of government in August, despite declines in revenue from some sources, including Company Income Tax (CIT), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), Stamp Duties and VAT.

According to a communiqué issued after the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja, the total allocation comprised ₦1.672 trillion from statutory revenue and ₦756.587 billion from VAT.

The Federal Government received ₦832.242 billion, while state governments were allocated ₦799.872 billion. Local government councils received ₦560.660 billion.

In addition, ₦236.049 billion was distributed among states entitled to the 13 per cent derivation fund from mineral resources.

The communiqué indicated that the Federal Government received ₦756.583 billion from statutory revenue, while state governments got ₦383.749 billion.

Local government councils received ₦295.855 billion from the statutory revenue allocation, while the benefiting states shared ₦236.049 billion as derivation revenue.

From the VAT proceeds, the Federal Government received ₦75.659 billion. State governments were allocated ₦416.123 billion, while local government councils received ₦264.805 billion.

Government Revenue Rises As VAT Earnings Decline

FAAC disclosed that total gross revenue generated in September amounted to ₦3.913 trillion.

Of the total revenue, ₦131.758 billion was deducted as the cost of collection, while ₦1.352 trillion was allocated to transfers, refunds and savings.

Gross statutory revenue increased to ₦3.096 trillion in September, up from ₦2.850 trillion recorded in August. This represents a rise of ₦246.384 billion.

However, gross VAT revenue fell to ₦816.872 billion from ₦834.843 billion in August, representing a decline of ₦17.972 billion.

According to FAAC, revenue from Petroleum Profit Tax, Hydrocarbon Tax, petroleum royalties, import duty, Common External Tariff levies and excise duty recorded significant increases during the month.

In contrast, collections from Company Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Stamp Duties, VAT, mineral royalties, gas-flaring penalties and fees, as well as other oil revenue, declined.

Despite the reduction in VAT earnings and revenue from several other sources, the increase in statutory revenue contributed to the higher allocation shared by the Federal Government, state governments and local government councils in September 2026.

Momodu Questions Tinubu’s Commitment to Free and Fair Elections

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed doubts about President Tinubu’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections in 2027, claiming that even some of the President’s supporters harbour similar concerns.

reports that the veteran journalist made the remarks during an interview on Arise News’ Prime Time programme.

Momodu alleged that some Nigerians fear Tinubu might be unwilling to relinquish power if he loses the next presidential election.

He, however, insisted that Nigerians would resist any attempt by the President to remain in office after an electoral defeat.

The ADC chieftain further claimed that some governors elected on the APC platform, alongside judges and legislators, were apprehensive about the possible outcome of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the interview, Momodu said many Nigerians would question whether Tinubu could be trusted to oversee a credible and transparent electoral process.

He argued that some supporters of the President were confident of victory but, according to him, struggled to explain the basis for their optimism beyond their belief in Tinubu’s political influence.

Momodu also maintained that his confidence in the opposition’s efforts was not based solely on his party, but on what he described as the growing determination of ordinary Nigerians who do not want Tinubu to secure another term.

He recalled Tinubu’s political struggle to win a second term as governor of Lagos State, suggesting that opposition figures were also working behind the scenes to challenge his bid for re-election as President.

The ADC chieftain added that some political figures who publicly support Tinubu were allegedly concerned about the current political climate but were reluctant to express their reservations openly.

He concluded by describing the President’s position within the political establishment as one that many were unwilling to challenge directly.

Momodu’s remarks reflect his personal assessment of the political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections and his criticism of the Tinubu administration.
