In a press statement, the APC New Media Directorate expressed deep outrage and disappointment over recent revelations brought to light during an interactive session between the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate and AAU staff. During this session, senior lecturers courageously disclosed the appalling conditions they have been subjected to, with some having gone unpaid for as long as 25 months. One lecturer, overwhelmed with emotion, implored that his desperate plea be recorded, sending a message directly to Governor Obaseki: stop misusing Edo State’s money for election campaigns while AAU staff suffer in silence.

The statement highlighted the irony and injustice of the situation, noting that Asue Ighodalo, who has served as Obaseki’s economic adviser for the past eight years, is now benefiting from the very funds that should have gone to paying AAU staff. “It is disgraceful that Governor Obaseki, after failing the people of Edo State for eight years, is now diverting the unpaid salaries of AAU staff to fund Ighodalo’s campaign,” the statement read. “Ighodalo’s complicity in this travesty is undeniable, given his role in advising Obaseki on the state’s financial matters.”

The Directorate further condemned the drastic reduction in AAU’s funding under Obaseki’s administration, from over N270 million during Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure to less than a hundred million, leading to severe financial distress for the institution and its staff. The statement criticized this as more than just an administrative failure but a profound moral lapse.

The APC New Media Directorate called for immediate action, demanding that Obaseki pay the outstanding salaries and cease using state resources for political purposes. “Edo State’s resources are not your personal campaign fund,” the statement declared. “We demand accountability from Governor Obaseki and urge him to stop using the people’s money to support his political ambitions.”

The statement concluded with a stern warning to the outgoing governor: “The people of Edo State will not stand by while you use their money to fund your chosen successor. Edo State deserves better, and we will not be silent in the face of such blatant injustice.”
