The suspects, who claimed to be natives of Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North LGA of Abia State, were caught by Okwu community youths and had their operational motorcycle confiscated.

The two men, Uche Harrison, 42, and Lucky Nwohu, who refused to disclose his age, were detained by the youths of Okwu during an environmental sanitation exercise at the village’s market square on Saturday. The suspects entered the community on their bike, drawing attention.

An Okwu local, speaking to DAILY POST about the incident, said: “When villagers noticed unfamiliar faces moving around, they grew suspicious. The suspects tried to flee, prompting the youths to raise an alarm about potential intruders.”

The suspects’ luck ran out when their motorcycle stalled at the market square, where the youths were conducting sanitation work, leading to their capture.

Initially, the suspects claimed they had come from Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North, to Okwu Olokoro to find a place to eat. However, under interrogation, they confessed to their occupation of using tricks to extract money from people.

Further questioning revealed that the fraudsters had previously duped Mrs. Okwuchi Ihezie from Ihete Uboma, Imo State, out of N350,000 two months ago.

Mrs. Ihezie rushed to Okwu Olokoro upon hearing about their capture and recounted to the youths how the suspects had sold her a fake business idea, resulting in her losing her hard-earned money.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Zone 9 Command of the Nigerian Police, Umuahia, by the Chairman of Okwu community, Mr. Bartholomew Nwaeze, who sternly warned criminals to stay away from Okwu Olokoro.
