Marketers Expose Shady Deals Behind Nigeria’s Fuel Scarcity!

Marketers Expose Shady Deals Behind Nigeria’s Fuel Scarcity!Petroleum marketers have attributed the current fuel scarcity to alleged underhanded dealings between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMA), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The marketers assert that these questionable transactions involving NNPCL, tank farm owners, and NMDPRA are hindering the availability and smooth distribution of petroleum products to retail outlets. In response, downstream operators have urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to resolve the issue.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the marketers revealed that NNPCL, as the sole importer of petroleum products, has placed independent marketers, who own the majority of retail outlets in the country, at the mercy of DAPPMA.

DAILY POST reports that NNPCL supplies petrol to private depot owners under DAPPMA at a depot price of N556.5 per litre. However, investigations have shown that tank farm owners sell to marketers at prices ranging from N700 to N740 per litre, leaving marketers with minimal or no profit margins.

One anonymous marketer explained, “Previously, NNPCL allocated products to independent marketers through private depot owners at a reasonable benchmark price. Now, independent marketers have no allocation and are at the mercy of tank farm owners. Without a fixed ex-depot price, the industry suffers. Private depot owners are now selling at N800 per litre, while we have to sell at retail outlets to ordinary Nigerians.”

The marketers argue that they are unfairly accused of hoarding products and selling at exorbitant prices. Instead of the midstream regulatory agency scrutinizing tank farm owners’ activities and enforcing ex-depot prices, marketers are being scapegoated.

“There is a cabal in the sector creating problems for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He must demonstrate a strong resolve to dismantle their influence. How many stations do tank farm owners have? Yet they are making substantial profits at the expense of Nigerians,” the marketer added.
