During a press briefing on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State Police Command Spokesperson Yemisi Opalola detailed the case. She explained that the brothers, aged 30 and 19, were involved in a scheme to defraud a businessman of significant funds.

According to Opalola, the elder brother, Yisa, used the proceeds from his fraudulent activities to build a house in the Kelebe area of Osogbo. The businessman initially engaged Yisa in 2020, providing him with 27 cows for rearing. In 2022, he added 10 more cows, bringing the total to 37. In March 2024, the businessman entrusted Yisa with an additional 5 cows and later purchased 13 more for the Ileya festival, spending N2,500,000.

Opalola stated that Yisa manipulated the situation by marking the cows, only to later remove these markings and return the same cows to his brother, Qudri, who was also complicit in the scheme. A total of 54 cows were involved in the deception.

The businessman became suspicious when he noticed unusual behavior from Yisa and visited his residence in Oni-Oba/Kelebe Area, Osogbo, only to find that the cows had been moved and Yisa was missing. Yisa’s wives claimed ignorance of his whereabouts, which was later revealed to be part of the scam. Yisa even used Qudri’s phone to falsely inform the businessman that all 54 cows had died.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of both brothers. During questioning, Yisa confessed to using the funds from the scam to build his house and admitted that 16 cows were found on Qudri’s property, where they were being kept for personal gain.

The police have recovered the 16 cows and are preparing to charge the suspects to court upon completing their investigation.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
