Obaseki Warned: Public Walk Could End In Disaster, Says APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to take a public walk with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, through the streets of Benin City and other parts of the state. APC members were urged to support Senator Monday Okpebholo, who emerged as the party’s gubernatorial candidate, despite any discontent over the primary results.

Dennis Idahosa, the APC’s deputy gubernatorial candidate, outlined the party’s agenda during the event. He promised that a new APC government would continue from where former Governor Adams Oshiomhole left off, focusing on flood control, rebuilding public schools, addressing insecurity and cultism, and respecting traditional institutions.

“Adams Oshiomhole has been out of government for eight years now. The current governor, Obaseki, has been there for almost eight years. We want Obaseki to take his candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and walk around the streets of Benin City and other places in the state. Oshiomhole will do the same with Okpebholo and see what happens. If Obaseki does not wear a helmet, he will come back bleeding because he is completely disconnected from the people,” Idahosa said.

Okpebholo also addressed the audience, saying, “If elected, we will not listen to gossip. We will work for the Edo people so there will be progress in the state. We are ready to send them packing because they have failed us. I was in the local government of the PDP candidate, and after counting 30 things I had done there, they could not point to one thing he had done for them.”

Matthew Uroghide, Director General of the APC Campaign Council, asserted that the APC has done enough to win the election. He noted that the party’s candidates, who are current National Assembly members, have been actively working for their constituents. He emphasized that Oredo is the political heartbeat of Edo South and that most political heavyweights in Oredo, including himself, are now united in one party, ensuring victory.

In his opening remarks, Osaro Obazee, Director General of the Campaign Council in Oredo, called for unity among party members for victory. He said, “I am overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of people here today. Not too long ago, we were all involved in our primary election, and I recall that some people still had deep anger. You have a choice when contesting a primary election, but once a candidate has emerged, you can no longer have a personal interest unless you want to engage in anti-party activities, which have consequences. We must work together.

According to him, instead of pushing for reforms that would create a functional system for the film industry—such as ensuring actors earn royalties from their past movies—many celebrities prefer to align themselves with politicians whom he believes are contributing to the country’s problems.

Eke also claimed that a number of celebrities are struggling financially and are willing to compromise their principles for monetary gain.

He wrote that many actors and musicians watched the country struggle with corruption and poor leadership but chose to stay quiet, waiting for politicians to pay them to appear and perform during campaign events.

The actor added that if Nigeria had a proper entertainment structure, many performers would still be earning royalties from films they featured in years ago. Instead, he said, some entertainers choose to associate with political figures rather than demand better systems for the industry.

Both defendants were present in court when the matter came before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

Iroegbu made the remark while reacting to the outcome of the Appeal Court judgment concerning the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Ibadan, last November.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday dismissed an appeal filed by the faction led by Taminu Turaki. The court also upheld an earlier ruling by the Federal High Court that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 national convention.

Speaking during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television, Iroegbu insisted that the PDP cannot operate as an extension of the APC.

According to him, anyone within the PDP openly supporting the APC government should simply defect to the ruling party instead of maintaining dual loyalty.

He criticised what he described as political inconsistency, saying individuals should not attempt to align with two opposing sides at the same time.

Iroegbu also stated that although the court ruling did not favour his faction, it equally did not legitimise the caretaker committee established by the opposing group.

He argued that the same individuals who formed the committee were already under suspension at the time, a decision that the appellate court has now affirmed.

According to him, with their suspension upheld, it raises questions about the legitimacy of any caretaker structure they created while under disciplinary action.
