The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday postponed the alleged terrorism financing and illegal firearms possession case involving former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, until April 15 and 16.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Both defendants were present in court when the matter came before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), informed the court that the case was scheduled for hearing but explained that he had only received instructions to take over the prosecution on Monday and needed time to meet with witnesses.

He therefore requested another date to properly prepare for the trial. Counsel to the defendants, Shuaibu Arua (SAN), did not oppose the request.

Justice Abdulmalik subsequently granted the application and adjourned the case to April 15 and 16 for the commencement of trial.

The Department of State Services had earlier arraigned Malami and his son on a five-count charge bordering on terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/63/2026, Malami is accused of failing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were allegedly forwarded to him during his tenure as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.

The defendants are also accused of storing firearms at their residence in Gesse Phase II area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, without lawful authorisation.

In count one, the prosecution alleged that Malami knowingly aided terrorism financing by refusing to prosecute alleged financiers, contrary to provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.

Counts two to five accuse Malami and his son of unlawfully possessing a Sturm Magnum firearm, 16 live Redstar AAA cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges, offences said to violate the Terrorism Act and the Firearms Act 2004.

The DSS had transferred the case to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on March 4, when the matter was initially scheduled for full hearing.

The governor also endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, declaring that the period of political hostilities in the state was over.

Fubara disclosed his position in a video shared on his X account, in which he addressed his supporters and urged them to rally behind the coalition.

The governor said peace had returned to Rivers State and called on his loyalists to support the political arrangement.

“We have made peace in the state, and I am supporting the Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president and is the one that we are supporting.

“Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting and everybody who believes in me will support,” he said.

Fubara also addressed supporters who might be expecting financial incentives before participating in the campaign, insisting that there was nothing to collect as he had returned to his political family.

“And for those of you who are saying Fubara, we want to collect something before we run, there is nothing to collect, I have gone back to our family, so please wherever you are give your total support to that coalition,” he stated.

The governor urged his followers to embrace the new political direction, expressing confidence that the peace agreement would usher Rivers State into a new phase of development.

“We need to move forward, the time of war is over, this is the time of peace and this peace is taking us to another level. What you miss here you gain in another place, that’s life,” he said.

Fubara further warned his supporters against invoking his name to advance any agenda that could undermine the state’s stability.

He stressed that he would not support any political activity capable of triggering fresh unrest in Rivers State.

“So please, I want this to be made clear to everybody, don’t go and say we are supporting Fubara, no. My position is this, I have said it here and clearly for everyone to hear that I’m not a party to anything that will bring instability to this state.

“I have done what I need to do, and for now we are moving forward,” he added.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi after he equalled Mohamed Salah’s record for the most Premier League appearances by an African player, with both stars having featured in 328 matches.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Iwobi achieved the milestone on Saturday, October 24, when Fulham secured a 1-0 victory over Coventry City. The 30-year-old Nigerian midfielder has now drawn level with Egyptian forward Salah on the list of African players with the most appearances in the English top flight.

Iwobi is now 25 appearances away from overtaking former Ivory Coast international Kolo Touré, who made 353 Premier League appearances during his career with several English clubs.

Reacting to the achievement, the NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised Iwobi and expressed optimism that he would soon set a new record for African players in the competition.

“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement, and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme said.

Iwobi also delivered a solid performance in Fulham’s victory over Coventry City, recording 60 touches and completing 51 passes at an accuracy rate of 86.3 per cent during his 73 minutes on the pitch.

The achievement further highlights the midfielder’s experience in football, both at club and international levels.

Iwobi reached another career milestone this summer when he earned his 100th cap for Nigeria during an international friendly against Portugal in Leiria.

The Fulham star has also helped the Super Eagles secure three medals at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), winning one silver and two bronze medals.
