The ongoing crisis within the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Wednesday as the party announced the expulsion of Dan Orbih, Hon. Philip Shaibu, and Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.

The expulsion was declared by the state executives led by Anthony Aziegbemi.

Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman South-South of the party, Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of the state, and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a two-time lawmaker and the immediate past Oredo Federal Constituency Representative in the National Assembly, were all affected.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Ogie Vasco, issued a statement in Benin City confirming the expulsions, citing anti-party activities as the reason. He stated that the State Working Committee had upheld their suspension and expulsion.

The decision was made during a meeting attended by nine members of the State Working Committee at the party secretariat on Airport Road, Benin City.

Vasco elaborated, “The SWC extensively deliberated on the issue and resolved to expel with immediate effect Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman South-South, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, and upheld the expulsion of Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama from Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area.”

In response, Chief Dan Orbih dismissed the expulsion as the actions of “idle persons and busybodies,” stating that the state leadership lacked the authority to suspend a member of the National Working Committee.

“When a group of persons who are idle and have nothing to do sit down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party,” Orbih said.

He emphasized that the actions taken did not follow the party’s constitutional provisions, rendering them null and void.

The Oredo Local Government chapter of the PDP also disowned the expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama by Ward 2 leaders. Local government chairman Mr. Oduwa Igbinosun called the expulsion by Lawrence Aguebor and his group “null and void.”

According to Igbinosun, the local government exco was prompted to set the record straight after being alerted to the expulsion. He noted that Lawrence Aguebor, an ex-official of the ward, lacked the authority to suspend or expel anyone.

Additionally, the executives of PDP Ward 2 disowned the purported suspension and expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama. Ward secretary Mr. Jesuobo Obadigie emphasized that no such action had been taken.

“This is to warn mischief-makers and impostors to desist from their criminal and divisive actions that could cause potential harm,” Obadigie stated.

Ward chairman Prince Elemah denied signing any document against Ogbeide-Ihama and affirmed, “Ogbeide-Ihama remains our leader and a bona fide member.”

In a unanimous decision, the 12 members of the ward exco declared that Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama remains not just a member, but a prominent and formidable leader of the party, assuring him of their continued support in Ward 2.
