Organization Assists 150 Women With Farm Seedlings To Enhance ProductivityIn Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, the Royal Pearls Women Group has provided support to 150 indigenous women by distributing seeds and seedlings to enhance their agricultural productivity.

The initiative, held at the Yakurr Local Government Guest House Auditorium in Ugep, aims to boost farmers’ productivity through cooperative farming, with assistance from the Global GreenGrant Fund.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Various seeds and seedlings, including pumpkin, cucumber, maize, pepper, okra, egusi seeds, and cassava stems, were distributed during the event.

Teyojesam Eko, Executive Director of the group, explained that the initiative is intended to empower women to generate wealth by focusing on planting indigenous crops suited to the local climate.

She emphasized the importance of leveraging the cultural practice of “KOJINNOH” – cooperative farming – to address challenges faced by rural women in Ugep engaged in subsistence farming.

Eko highlighted the critical role of rural farmers in the local economy, emphasizing their significant contribution to food security and nutritional needs.

Mr. Nelson Uket Onun, a Director with the Cross River State Ministry of Agriculture, expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance agricultural growth and improve crop yield for farmers in the area.

He noted the suitability of the distributed seeds and cassava stems to local conditions, anticipating significant improvements in crop outputs.

Mr. Koton Obeten, a national award-winning farmer, stressed the importance of diligence among beneficiaries to maximize the benefits of the KOJINNOH cooperative farming model.

Beneficiaries, such as Mrs. Joy Ofem and Mrs. Ijaja Willie, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting its positive impact on their lives and economic growth.

The “KOJINNOH” practice involves rural women farmers taking turns to work on each other’s farms, fostering reciprocal labor exchange.

The Royal Pearls Women Group aims to promote Nigerian cultural heritage and contribute to its economic and social development.
