Edo Police: More Locals Involved In Kidnapping CasesThe Edo State Police Command has expressed concern over the increasing involvement of local residents in kidnapping incidents within the state. State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, raised the alarm during a press conference in Benin City on Tuesday.

Adegboye highlighted that while cases of kidnapping by herdsmen have decreased, there has been a rise in locals participating in such criminal activities.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He revealed that recent experiences and debriefings of victims liberated from kidnappers have shown a shift away from the involvement of herdsmen. Instead, more locals are being arrested for kidnapping offenses.

The commissioner cited specific cases, including the arrest of a 23-year-old man in Benin City who kidnapped a five-year-old girl, held her captive in his room for several days, and demanded a ransom of N250,000 from her parents. The perpetrator was subsequently apprehended, confessed to the crime, and has been charged in court.

Adegboye emphasized the importance of vigilance among the public, urging community leaders and youth leaders to be more proactive in safeguarding their communities. He cautioned that in such situations, everyone should be considered a suspect, stressing the need for individuals to trust themselves rather than relying solely on their neighbors.

The commissioner assured that the police command is actively engaged in sensitizing the public and deploying technical resources to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
