Southwest Governors Call For Minimum Wage Negotiations Reflecting Fiscal Federalism

In his statement, Sanwo-Olu noted, “After the conclusion of our South West Governors’ Forum meeting today at Lagos House Alausa, Ikeja, I was elected as the new chairman of the forum.”
The governor also paid tribute to the late chairman, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu, SAN, CON, expressing condolences and wishing for his soul to rest in peace.
Among the resolutions reached during the meeting, the governors expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives and the South West Caucus for their efforts on the South West Development Commission Bill. They urged the Senate to hasten its passage.
Additionally, the governors commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiatives like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project and called for further federal road rehabilitation.
Regarding security matters, they expressed satisfaction with peace in the South West and advocated for the establishment of state police, emphasizing collaboration between security agencies and the Amotekun Corps.
The governors reiterated their unity in supporting ongoing discussions on the minimum wage, expecting fair outcomes reflecting fiscal federalism. They also endorsed the Federal Government’s efforts on mineral resources and urged increased collaboration with states in granting leases to investors.
Furthermore, they agreed to enhance the efficiency of the DAWN Commission, focusing on economic integration, aiming at advancing the development and prosperity of the South West states.
