The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has issued a warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), urging them not to disrupt the ongoing transportation of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia……..CONTINUE READING
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Mrs. Fatima Usara, Assistant Director of Public Affairs at NAHCON, emphasized the importance of respecting the sanctity of the pilgrimage and urged the NLC to refrain from impeding its progress.
“NAHCON has received information suggesting that certain factions within the NLC intend to disrupt ongoing Hajj operations, despite previous agreements that Hajj flights would proceed unaffected,” she stated.
“While NAHCON acknowledges the NLC’s concerns regarding the welfare of its members, we urge them to recognize the sacred nature of the Hajj as a religious obligation deeply cherished by Muslims.
“The commission advises the NLC to exercise restraint and avoid interfering with the conveyance of Hajj pilgrims out of respect for the Muslim faith.
“Any disruption to the smooth functioning of the operation will deny intending Muslims their fundamental right to worship, especially considering the limited time before the closure of Jeddah and Madinah airports for the pilgrimage,” the statement emphasized.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), approximately 65,500 Nigerians are expected to participate in the 2024 pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. NAHCON’s records show that the commission has already transported 38,805 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia through 92 flights.
