At the helm of this distressing narrative is 75-year-old Edwin Eze, the patriarch of the family. Afflicted by blindness, he presides over a household where three of his sons endure withered limbs and speechlessness. The weight of caring for the family falls squarely on the shoulders of their 60-year-old mother, the sole member untouched by deformity.
However, a glimmer of hope emerged when Professor Mrs. Victoria Onu, Head of the Department of Special Needs Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, extended her helping hand to the beleaguered family.
Professor Onu, the first female professor of creativity in Africa, recounted encountering the family eight years ago and being moved by their plight. She took it upon herself to alleviate their suffering, providing sustenance, medication, and even sanitary facilities.
In a plea echoing across federal, state, and local governments, as well as donor agencies and compassionate individuals both locally and abroad, Professor Onu implores for urgent assistance for the Eze family.
Speaking from their humble abode, 45-year-old Eze Edwin Onyebuchi, the eldest son confined to a wheelchair, expressed gratitude for Professor Onu’s unwavering support. He recounted the family’s descent into illness and paralysis, lamenting their once robust health and academic pursuits.
As the family continues to navigate their harrowing reality, Mrs. Mary Ugwoke Eze, the matriarch, voiced her bewilderment at the affliction that has befallen her loved ones. Yet, amidst the adversity, they find solace in the compassion and aid extended by Professor Onu, sustaining them through the years.
