Katsina Governor Reports on Anti-Banditry Efforts: Arrests Made, Victims Rescued, Bandits Neutralized…….CONTINUE READING
In a recent statement, Katsina State Governor Dr. Umaru Dikko Radda shed light on the intricate web of banditry, suggesting that it’s not merely a criminal endeavor but a lucrative business for some influential figures. Addressing the underlying issues, he highlighted poverty and injustice as significant contributors to the country’s insecurity.
Dr. Radda, who has been proactive in combating banditry with initiatives like the Katsina Community Watch Corps, reiterated his commitment to eradicating this menace, even among state appointees suspected of collusion.
He recounted a chilling incident where a village head allegedly accepted a bribe of N700,000 from bandits, allowing them to infiltrate his community and resulting in the tragic deaths of approximately 30 villagers. Such acts, he emphasized, undermine the safety and well-being of millions.
Governor Radda’s administration has been relentless in addressing poverty as a root cause of insecurity. He expressed dismay that individuals would betray their neighbors for a mere N2,000 reward, emphasizing the need for comprehensive solutions to tackle these challenges.
While acknowledging the crucial role of security agencies, Governor Radda lamented the pervasive involvement of various individuals in criminal activities, including government officials and traditional rulers. He called for transparency and accountability in confronting these issues head-on.
Providing updates on the state’s security efforts, Governor Radda revealed that 35 bandits were neutralized by joint security task forces, with 363 arrests made and 565 kidnap victims rescued over the past year. This comprehensive approach reflects the state’s commitment to restoring peace and security for all its citizens.
