Labour Party’s Edo Chapter Suspends National Chairman Abure

Tensions within the Labour Party (LP) have reached a boiling point as the Edo chapter has taken the drastic step of suspending National Chairman Julius Abure. The suspension, enacted by the executives of his Ward 3 in Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, stems from allegations of high-handedness, anti-party activities, and financial impropriety…..CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision, endorsed by the State Executive Committee (SEC) following a letter from the ward, was finalized during a meeting on May 24, 2024, in Benin. The suspension, effective immediately, prohibits Abure from representing himself as a member of the LP in Ward 3.

Signed by Ward Chairman Thompson Ehiguese and Ward Secretary Stanley Usiomoh, the suspension letter highlighted grievances against Abure’s leadership. This action was supported by a letter of ratification from the SEC, further solidifying Abure’s suspension.

Reports indicate a charged atmosphere at the meeting, with party members chanting “Abure must go!” The SEC, after deliberation, validated the suspension, thereby undermining Abure’s authority as national chairman.

Responding through LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Abure dismissed the Edo chapter’s action as futile and contrary to the LP constitution. Citing Article 17, subsection 1 of the 2019 LP Constitution, Ifoh argued that only a National Convention with a two-thirds majority could suspend or remove the national chairman. He emphasized that lower-level bodies lacked the authority to take such actions.

Ifoh portrayed the move as a continuation of attacks against Abure, reminiscent of the controversies during the governorship primaries. He remained resolute, stating that legal rulings from Edo High Court and the Appeal Court supported Abure’s position, suggesting that the suspension would ultimately prove ineffective.

The escalating crisis within the LP underscores growing discord and power struggles within the party, raising questions about its future trajectory.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by Nnamdi Kanu, has announced a sit-at-home order for May 30, 2026, in observance of the annual Biafra Heroes Remembrance Day.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

May 30 is traditionally set aside for remembrance, mourning, and reflection in honour of those who lost their lives during the Nigeria–Biafra Civil War.

The declaration was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful.

This year’s commemoration marks the first time IPOB will observe the event since its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was convicted on terrorism-related charges by the Nigerian government and is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

As part of the observance, IPOB called on governors in the South-East and other areas it describes as “Biafra states” to fly the Nigerian flag at half-mast in honour of the fallen.

It also urged residents across these regions to remain indoors throughout the day.

In its statement, the group described May 30 as a sacred day of remembrance dedicated to Biafran heroes and heroines who died defending their people during the civil war.

IPOB emphasized that the commemoration is not political but a solemn obligation to honour past sacrifices, stressing the importance of preserving the memory of those who fought between 1967 and 1970.

The group recounted the hardships faced during the war, including military blockade, starvation, aerial bombardments, and overwhelming military opposition, while praising the resilience of those who resisted despite limited resources and international isolation.

It also referenced civilians, soldiers, scientists, and mothers who suffered and died during the conflict, insisting that their sacrifices must never be forgotten or reduced to historical footnotes.

IPOB further recalled victims of the 2016 Biafra Day observance clashes in Nkpor and Onitsha, describing them as martyrs whose deaths form part of the group’s collective memory.

According to the statement, the annual sit-at-home is intended as a day of prayer, reflection, and mourning, with no allowance for commercial, social, or political activities.

The group urged strict compliance across towns and communities in the South-East and encouraged members of the diaspora to also observe the remembrance.

It also appealed to state governors in the region to show symbolic respect by lowering national flags, saying such actions would acknowledge the sacrifices of those who died.

IPOB maintained that remembering the dead is essential for justice and identity, insisting that their legacy must be preserved for future generations.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, Ameh voluntarily reported herself at the Maitama Police Station after being located, and is currently providing information to assist ongoing investigations into the incident.

“Ms. Linda Ameh, the legal practitioner previously reported missing on the 6th of May 2026, has now been located. She is assisting the Police with valuable information to aid the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.

The police also stated that efforts are underway to track down and arrest those suspected to be responsible for her alleged abduction.

Authorities, however, did not confirm whether any ransom was paid for her release, despite earlier reports suggesting that abductors demanded ₦20 million.

Ameh, 25, was reported missing on Tuesday, May 6, after she failed to return home from work.

She was said to have finished work at Blades and Butchers Ltd in Maitama around 5:40 p.m. before heading toward the Life Camp area, after which her phone became unreachable.

Her family reportedly made several unsuccessful attempts to reach her before later receiving messages from suspected abductors demanding ransom.

The incident sparked widespread concern among relatives, colleagues, and members of the public.

Following the report, the FCT Police Command launched an investigation and intensified efforts to determine her whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Ameh was reportedly close to completing her mandatory NYSC programme and Community Development Service before the incident occurred.

Police say investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend those linked to the alleged abduction.

World Bank Must Apologize To Nigerians Or Face Lawsuit – Mahdi Shehu Warns.

Published

on

A public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has urged the World Bank to issue an apology to Nigerians over alleged delays in the approval and release of loans, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Shehu made the remark on Sunday in a post on X, responding to reports that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration had expressed concern over difficulties in accessing already approved loans.

He argued that Nigeria has remained a consistent borrower while the World Bank continues to act as a willing lender, describing the situation as troubling.

“Nigeria is a serial willing borrower and the World Bank a serial loan giver,” he stated.

Shehu further suggested that the delay in disbursing funds appears questionable, alleging it could be a calculated move to undermine the country’s economic stability and recovery.

“Delay in disbursing approved loans appears to be a deliberate sabotage against a stabilized and fully recovered economy and polity,” he said.

He also ridiculed the situation, noting that it was unusual for a country eager to borrow to be issuing warnings to a lender.

“A situation where an ever willing loan seeker is warning an ever willing loan giver must be recorded by the Guinness Book of Records,” he added.

Shehu went on to demand an apology from the World Bank, cautioning that refusal could lead to a class action suit at the International Court of Justice.

“The World Bank must apologize to all Nigerians for the delay which will affect our comfort level, otherwise we will file a class action at the World Court of Justice,” he said.

He stressed that once legal action is initiated, there would be no room for an out-of-court settlement.

“And the moment we file against them, there will be no room for out-of-court settlement,” he added.

He also noted that the legal team would be led by the Attorney General, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, describing him as competent and patriotic.
