Atiku Warns Of Anarchy In Kano Over Emirship Crisis, Condemns Troop Deployment
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a stark warning, urging Nigerians to hold President Bola Tinubu accountable if Kano State plunges into chaos due to the ongoing emirship dispute. Atiku, through a statement by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, criticized the Federal Government’s deployment of soldiers to Kano, labeling it a threat to the state’s peace and security and a violation of the 1999 Constitution……CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The statement details the recent legislative and executive actions in Kano State, where the Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) passed the amended Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed it into law. This law repealed the 2019 version that had divided the ancient Kano Emirate into five, and reappointed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (Muhammadu Sanusi II) as the 16th Emir of Kano State.
Atiku highlighted that the return of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir occurred legally and with the consultation of Kano’s Kingmakers. However, he expressed alarm over the early morning arrival of former Emir Aminu Ado Bayero at the Nasarawa Palace, allegedly backed by federal forces. Atiku argued that this act, supported by military personnel, is unconstitutional and undermines the integrity of the Nigerian military.
He emphasized Kano’s long history of peace and harmony, warning that any destabilization attempts would be firmly resisted. Atiku reminded the public that the previous dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II in March 2020 did not disrupt Kano’s peace, suggesting that the current federal intervention is unnecessary and provocative.
Atiku’s statement concludes with a firm declaration that the Federal Government will be held responsible if law and order deteriorate in Kano, particularly in the Kano Municipal area, due to their actions supporting the former Emir’s return.
