Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court issued an ex-parte order on Friday, May 24, restraining Governor Abba Yusuf from reinstating Emir Sanusi and halting the implementation of the law that abolished the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.
In response to this legal development, Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi as Emir, disputing the jurisdiction of the judge who issued the order from the United States. Meanwhile, Sanusi returned to the palace, while the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, settled into a mini-palace upon his arrival in the state. The governor subsequently ordered Bayero’s arrest, accusing him of attempting to disrupt the state’s peace.
Addressing a press briefing at the command headquarters on Saturday morning, Commissioner of Police Usaini Mohammed Gumel emphasized the police’s commitment to upholding the court order. He underscored that the police, along with other law enforcement agencies, are fully prepared to provide adequate security to everyone in compliance with their statutory duties as stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution.
Gumel urged the law-abiding people of Kano to remain calm, patient, and cooperative with security agencies. He highlighted that the matter will be addressed by the court on June 3, 2024. Furthermore, he warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace, stating that perpetrators would face the full force of the law. Gumel emphasized that the police are vigilant and prepared to handle any attempts to incite violence or launch attacks on individuals, property, or infrastructure in the state.
In conclusion, the Kano State Police Command emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace and urged troublemakers to refrain from engaging in violent activities, as such actions would be met with decisive legal measures.

The uproar began after a viral video showed Mrs. Obi carrying what netizens identified as a Hermès Kelly 35 in Malachite, with online estimates placing its value around ₦237 million to ₦250 million. While some critics condemned the display of luxury, others defended her right to purchase items she can afford.
Weighing in on the debate, Linda Ikeji—a known collector of high-end luxury items—urged critics to calm down, stating that the viral price tag is inaccurate. Taking to Instagram, she wrote, “Relax people… this is not a N250m bag…. If it was, you think she would be traveling with it? I know how much these bags cost, because I have a few. Relax!”
Meanwhile, Peter Obi has also addressed the backlash, explaining that his wife runs her own independent business and income. The former governor maintained that he should not be held accountable for her personal purchases, noting that he is unaware of the prices of her accessories and that she has always managed her own affairs. He further defended his public record, emphasizing that he ensured his family’s personal life never conflicted with his administration of public funds.

The Ancestry Challenge: Eze urged historians and traditional institutions to examine any factual proof Wihioka claims to possess rather than relying on empty threats and political theatrics.
-
