JUST IN: Security Chiefs, Emir Sanusi, Gov Yusuf In Closed-door Meeting At Palace

The tension stems from the recent repeal of the Kano Emirates Council law by the State House of Assembly, which had been utilized by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to remove Sanusi from his position. Governor Yusuf signed the repeal last Thursday, subsequently ordering the affected Emirs to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.
While four of the Emirs complied with the directive, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero defied the order by returning to Kano and taking residence in the palace at Nassarawa. In response, Governor Yusuf called for Bayero’s arrest. However, the police have stated that they would adhere to a court order restricting the Kano State government from reinstating Sanusi.
At a press briefing held on Saturday morning at the headquarters of the Kano Police Command, Commissioner of Police Usaini Mohammed Gumel confirmed the police’s compliance with the Federal High Court order issued on May 23, 2024. “The Police Command is expressly obeying the Court Order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano alongside all Law Enforcement agents in the State,” Gumel stated.
In a related development, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has refuted allegations that he facilitated the dethroned Emir’s return to Kano. State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo had accused Ribadu of arranging for two aircraft to bring Ado Bayero back to the state early on Saturday morning.
Zakari Mijinyawa, spokesperson for the NSA’s office, denied these claims in an interview with Premium Times. “The NSA did not provide air transport to anyone to Kano,” Mijinyawa asserted. He urged political figures to avoid spreading misinformation that could undermine efforts to maintain peace and order in the state.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the outcomes of the high-level meeting between Governor Yusuf, Emir Sanusi, and the security chiefs, which could play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing conflict.
